Equipment

  • Meat mallet or tenderizer (optional)
  • Heavy-duty skillet (preferably cast iron)
  • Meat thermometer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 4 venison cube steaks
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons avocado or grapeseed oil for frying

Instructions

  • Tenderize the Steaks: Use a meat mallet or tenderizer to pound the venison cube steaks to your desired tenderness. Alternatively, marinate the steaks for 2-6 hours using a marinade of Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and brown sugar.
  • Season the Steaks: Season each steak with garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. For extra flavor, brush with Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce.
  • Preheat Skillet: Heat a heavy-duty skillet over medium-high heat. Add avocado or grapeseed oil to the skillet and let it get hot.
  • Cook the Steaks: Place the steaks in the hot skillet and cook for 3-5 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness (aim for 135-140°F).
  • Rest the Steaks: Once cooked, remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Tenderizing: If you don’t have a meat mallet, marinating the steaks will also help break down the fibers for a tender bite.
Cooking Time: Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of the steaks. Thicker cuts will take a little longer to cook.
Sides: Venison cube steak pairs well with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, sautéed mushrooms, and even a fresh salad.
Storage: Store leftover venison cube steak in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2-3 months.
